Chywanaprash
Chyawanprash is an ayurvedic tonic, a mixture of herbs infused with amla fruit and sesame oil. According to legend, chyawanprash was developed by an elderly sage called Chyawan, who created the formula to rejuvenate himself so as not to burden his much-younger bride.
You can take 1-2 tsp in hot water or milk or use it as a jam spread
- The omega-3 fatty acids may decrease inflammation and improve lung function in adults with asthma
- the amla--or Indian gooseberry--and cinnamon it contains have carminative qualities, meaning they help with gas and bloating and can relieve heartburn and nausea.
- The amla is very high in Vitamin C and ellagic acid having antiviral and antibacterial qualities, supporting a healthy immune system and preventing respiratory infections. The sesame oil in chyawanprash contains alpha-linolenic acid, which may have beneficial effects on the cardiac system. Studies it may help lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels.
- The Tannins, essential fatty acids and antioxidants contribute to healthy skin and hair.
